Christmas is nostalgia heaven for my family (unless you count the Christmas tree fire, which we won’t…).

Mom owns more holiday decorations than twelve area malls combined. Dad prides himself on hand-chopping the best live tree, while my older sister perfected peppermint cookies to the point of orgiastic bliss, and my younger sister has memorized every Christmas carol with her fingers for a piano bash that goes on and on.

What’s more fun than a contemporary twist on an old classic? Well, if it’s from Staci Hart, nothing is better. I’m super excited to move the ARC for her upcoming release, PRIDE AND PAPERCUTS: INSPIRED BY JANE AUSTEN’S PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, to the top of my reading list!

Hate is a strong word.

Depending on the company, loathe is a good substitute. Abhor might be a little fancy, but it gets the job done. But the word that really sums up how I feel about Liam Darcy is, without question, hate.

He doesn’t seem to think much of me either. The second he lays his fault-seeking eyes on me, he sets out to oppose me. Everything about him is imposing, as if he consumes the nearby air to power the rise and fall of his broad chest, and it’s clear he resents my presence on his advertising team. Every idea I have is shot down. Every olive branch I offer is set on fire by nothing more than the blistering coals he calls eyes.

In return, I light him up with my words.

It’s not as if he can dismiss me, since I work for his client, Wasted Words. Instead, he’s forced to tolerate me, which seems the closest we’ll ever be to friends. Fine by me.

I can be civil and still hate Liam Darcy.

But if there’s more to him than his exterior shows, I won’t be able to hate him at all.

I might stumble over that line between love and hate and fall right into his arms.

Decked out in a yellow lace demi bra and matching thong, I don’t move while he slowly rakes over me with a heated gaze. His perusal sends tingles up my spine, especially when he kicks off his shoes, tears his sweater over his head, and makes his way toward me, his eyes never leaving mine.

His beefy arm wraps around my waist first before he runs the other up the back of my neck and brings my mouth mere inches from his.

“What’s this?” he asks, his hand falling to my bare ass.

“Merry Christmas,” I say, looping my arms behind me and undoing my bra.

He growls when the fabric hits the floor and my already hard nipples skim across his bare chest.

Knox’s chest is thick. It’s the only way I can think to describe it, as if three chests were stacked on top of each other. His shoulders and arms are carved like stone, every indentation and perfectly sculpted muscle visible. And then his stomach. Despite the intake of food I’ve watched him consume in one meal, his abs are tight and chiseled, and the V at his waist is deep. I’m tempted to run my tongue over the rooted divots.

“Are you my Christmas present?” he asks, sliding his hand lower down my backside, dragging my thong with him until it falls down my legs. His lips taste my neck, slowly, methodically igniting goosebumps over my skin.

“I am.”

“What does this Christmas present entail? Breaking a bet?” he asks, his voice sounding almost desperate and strained. It’s exactly how I feel.
